Fine Art :: oils
I came to realism with some trepidation after decades spent painting hard-edged abstracts. Abstraction gave me great enjoyment but also bolstered my silly notion that it was a more serious art form than realism. Realism, however, continued to call, and I finally succumbed. Now, surprisingly, I find that each distinct petal, each rounded form, becomes a series of separate abstractions that together form a realistic whole. Best of both worlds.
Fine Art :: watercolors
Walking in the woods has always meant walking into mystery for me. When I was a teen, I'd bring home wildflowers, branches and rocks to paint with the painfully expensive tubes of watercolors I'd saved up to buy. I still hold paint and paper as precious...and as necessary as breathing.
Fine Art :: drawings in pencil & ink, block prints
I never travel without a pad of good drawing paper and some pencils, and every vacation or camping trip means taking some time to sit down and sketch. Even in restaurants, I find myself sketching people and places while I linger over a glass of wine. My favorite subjects are generally my cats, however. They never bore, always delight.
